FamNet
(New Zealand Family History Network) is a web site aiming to integrate the work
of many different individuals and groups with something to offer the family history
community, without dictating to them what they should do or whether their
information should be offered for free or for a subscription, be made widely
available or restricted to their membership, and so on. You will see this page by entering the
FamNet URL, www.famnet.org.nz, or by
clicking the link “FamNet Home from one of FamNet’s pages. Most likely you will use a FamNet page from
within another site.

Functions

[About
us] Displays information about the
people behind FamNet.
[General
Database Search]. Gives a list of the
databases that are catalogued in FamNet.
A general search gives you a count of the records in each database about
a person, so that you know which databases are worth searching further. Clicking “open” takes you to the particular
database. Note that these database don’t have to be contained within or
owned by FamNet. Also, any individual
can create a database within FamNet, controlling access to it.
[Sponsors]. This is a list of FamNet supports who have
given money or time to help us get established.
[Events
(Combined Calendar)]. Participating
organizations will have their own events calendars, which will appear on their
own web sites. This brings these all
together, so that you can see events for a month for all participating
organizations
[Newsletters]. Participating organizations can use FamNet’s
facilities to distribute newsletters electronically. If they do, then their newsletters are saved and can be
retrieved here (as well as from their own web site)
